every now and again i work with someone and there is a connection made that goes beyond the few hours we spend together for the shoot. lucky for me jill was one of those people. i had long admired her jewelry and was pleased to learn that the artist who made them was so gracious, dedicated and thoughtful about her work. jill's values and passions are poured into her jewelry and the way she runs her business. while turning a profit is a reality for all business owners, jill does not let that dictate her designs or any decisions she makes which could compromise her work. she doesn't advertise and yet people find their way to her shop and become hopelessly devoted to her work and jewelry. i speak from experience. i have had complete strangers ask me, "is that a jill platner?" pointing to a necklace or bracelet. they then launch into a story about how they acquired their jill platner piece, how much they cherish it, and how much they admire jill. it's almost as if by wearing jill platner jewels you become part of a family. or cult!
jill is now in the process of rebranding and updating her website. there are plans for a lot more new images and opportunities to show them off. i so appreciate being part of jill's creative team. i am thankful that she has the vision and the balls to ask me to shoot her jewelry. if you hadn't noticed, while i have shot food, children, celebrities, architecture, funerals, and dogs, i have never photographed jewelry. i love working directly with the "client". we brainstorm about the creative direction together but leave the shoots a little open ended so we have room to explore. the above image is just one from our first shoot. i love the timeless feel of the image. i so look forward to more shoots with jill!
